Mistral (typeface)

The Mistral font was created in 1953 by the French commercial artist Roger Excoffon ( 1910-1983 ). The font is based on his own handwriting.

After the Second World War, he founded the agency "U & O " that influenced the French typography of the second half of the twentieth century instrumental.

The Mistral is just as much as the Excoffon created by Banko and Choc to the promotional literature from the 50s always enjoy using. The similar-looking Pepita belongs to the group of script fonts, which was often used at the time as a sign font. These fonts can be readily used for headlines and display type as small commercial jobs, but are unsuitable for the amount set.

Today, the font is distributed under the original name of Letraset Mistral and Linotype, Bitstream sells them as Staccato 222 PrimaFont / Franzis Verlag renamed originating from the collection of liquidated H. Berthold AG in writing " Mysell -Normal". The original manufacturer was the Fonderie Olive, Marseille.
