MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory

MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory ( CSAIL ) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is a research laboratory for computer science, which was created from the merger of the Laboratory for Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab in 2003. It is in the Stata Center at MIT settled and the largest inter-departmental research institute of MIT.

It includes about 60 research groups (2011) in the main areas of artificial intelligence ( AI Artificial Intelligence ) systems (eg databases, software engineering, computer architecture, networks) and theory.

Among the precursors include the Artificial Intelligence Lab, which founded its roots in the 1963 Project MAC (originally for Mathematics and Computation ) had, which among other things the first time-sharing systems have been developed. In 1970, the AI group was divided under Marvin Minsky of the AI Lab, the rest formed the Laboratory of Computer Science ( LCS ).

They are also home to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
