Mittellegi Hut

The Mittellegi is a 3'355 m above sea level. M. high mountain hut on the narrow north- beziehungszweise Mittellegigrat of a mountain, the steep drops on both sides.

Since 1995, the Mittellegi is a warden.

Architectural History

The Mittellegi was built in 1924 by a donation of 10,000 Swiss francs of the ridge - Erstbegehers Yuko Maki. The total construction cost amounted to 16,000 Swiss francs.

After the building of the hut had to be renovated first time in 1986. You got this new shingles for the roof and the walls. However, the original condition remained unchanged. As the existing 16 seats in the hut often not sufficient, was further built as a steel tube structure in the same year a little east bothy, which can accommodate twelve other people and also serves as a winter room.

2001, the old Mittellegi was replaced by a new building. The new cabin has a capacity of 30 beds, a living room and a room for the bewirtende person.

The old hut was removed in one piece by helicopter. First served as a museum object in the Eiger glacier station of the Jungfrau Railway. In 2011 she was transferred again and has been part of the 2011 newly created adventure trail Eiger Walk. The hut is a small exhibition building, is shown in the mountaineering equipment from different eras, between the stations Eigergletscher and case ground at the Loucherflue.
