Mittelmark

The center mark is a historical geographical term that refers to the original core territory of the Mark Brandenburg (about 1417 ). The name probably refers to the situation in the middle between the two former Brandenburg landscapes Altmark (now in Saxony- Anhalt) and Neumark (now in Poland).

Agent Mark also was the name of a province in 1713 established the Hohenzollern territories (see Prussia), but there was only a short time.

Since 1993, the term is used by the establishment of the district Potsdam- agent Mark again. However, this covers only a small part of the initial marrow. In addition, the southern part of the district does not belong with the county town of Bad Belzig historically to the center mark, but was up to the Congress of Vienna in 1815 part of Saxony.
