Miyatake Gaikotsu

Miyatake Gaikotsu (Japanese宫 武 外 骨; born January 18, 1867 in the province of Sanuki (now Kagawa prefecture); † July 28, 1955 ) was a Japanese journalist and media historian. His childhood name ( yōmyō ) was Kameshirō (亀 四郎).

Gaikotsu Miyatake was born as the fourth son of a samurai. At the age of 20 he published his first satirical magazine Tonchi Kyōkai Zasshi (顿 智 协会 雑 志, dt " repartee club magazine "). In 1889 he was imprisoned for the first time because of a parody of the Emperor. Overall, he came into his life at four prison sentences.

It is known Gaikotsu Miyatake especially for his humorous monthly Kokkei Shimbun (滑稽 新闻), which he edited from 1901.

In 1927 he became head of the " library for newspapers and magazines of the Meiji period " (明治 新闻 雑 志 文库, Meiji Shimbun zasshi bunko ) at the Imperial University of Tokyo, and devoted himself to the study of.
