Miyazaki Prefecture

The Miyazaki Prefecture (Japanese宫 崎 県, Miyazaki - ken) is a prefecture of Japan. It is located in the region of Kyushu on the island of Kyushu. The administrative headquarters of the prefecture is Miyazaki.

Governor of Miyazaki since January 2011, Shunji Kono, previously Deputy Governor under his predecessor Hideo Higashikokubaru. He was elected with the support of the three major national parties. The Prefecture Parliament has regularly 39 members who were elected at the uniform regional elections in April 2011. The Liberal Democratic Party ( LDP) won 18 seats, but has along with non-party members of the Group again an absolute majority.

In the national parliament Miyazaki is represented by three directly elected seats in Shūgiin and with two Sangiin. The directly elected delegation of the prefecture in the national parliament is currently (as of August 2013) of:

  • Shūgiin Constituency 1: Shunsuke Takei (LDP, 1st term )
  • Constituency 2: Taku Eto (LDP, 4th term )
  • Constituency 3: Yoshihisa Furukawa (LDP, 4th term )
  • 2016: Shinpei Matsushita (LDP, 2nd term )
  • 2019: Makoto Nagamine (LDP, 1st term ), former mayor of Miyakonojo.

Miyazaki is one of the financially weaker prefectures. According to the " financial strength index " ( zaiseiryoku Shisu, 2004: 0.25, 2008: 0.31) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the prefecture only cover around 30 % of their theoretical needs from its own tax revenues.
