Mnichov (Domažlice District)

Mnichov ( German Münchsdorf ) is a municipality in the West Bohemian Okres Domažlice.

Geography

Mnichov lies 472 m above sea level on both sides of Pivoňka in the foothills of the Upper Palatinate Forest. The Pivoňka rises about 5 kilometers to the south-west on the slopes of the 877 meter high Stary Herštejn, then flows through Pivoň, Mnichov, Poběžovice, Zámělíč and flows west of Meclov in the Černý Potok, which opens at Horšovský Tyn in the Radbuza.

History

Mnichov ( German: Münchsdorf, also: Mönchdorf, Minxdorf ) was first mentioned in writing in 1435. In 1789 it belonged to Kammeradministrationsgut Stockau. It had a Holy Trinity Church, which was built in 1728. 1839 had 65 houses and 476 inhabitants Mnichov. This year, a two-class school was built in the village. In 1913 there were in Münchsdorf 78 houses, 473 inhabitants, and the following saws, mirror grinding and polishing works: upper and lower female representation, glass magazine, hammer loop, upper and lower hammer, Josef part, Ronkelschleife, Sandmühlschleife, Stock Auer upper and lower factory, Upper and Lower dog's head, Mühllohschleife, Mirtlwerk, Neuwerk and wind loop. Münchsdorf experienced early 20th century heyday. When they 1930-1935 these works closed down over the years, many inhabitants were unemployed. 1939 Münchsdorf 448 inhabitants, two inns, two department stores, two blacksmiths, two art mills, two carpenters and a bakery.
