Mo Cowan

William "Mo" Cowan ( born April 4, 1969 in Yadkinville, North Carolina) is an American politician. From 1 February 2013 to 16 July of the same year he represented ( as the second African American) the U.S. state of Massachusetts in the Senate of the United States.

Life and education

Cowan, the son of a machinist and a seamstress who grew up in Yadkinville (North Carolina), a city that was still largely racially divided and was dominated by the Ku Klux Klan. Cowan was 16 years old when his father died. He graduated from Forbush High School and entered the first graduate of that institution at the prestigious Duke University.

When he wanted to be a doctor first, he changed his career goal during their studies and obtained a Bachelor degree in Sociology. He then studied law at Northeastern University in Boston ( completion 1994).

Cowan is married to the lawyer Stacy Cowan and the couple have two sons. He lives in Stoughton (Massachusetts ).

Business and Career

First, Cowan 1997 lawyer before he entered in 2009 under Deval Patrick in the Federal State Administration of Massachusetts. First, he was General Counsel for Governor Patrick, then from 2011 to November 2012 his chief of staff. He left that post to return to the private sector.

Political offices

On January 30, 2013 appointed him to the U.S. Senator Patrick. He succeeds the foreign minister nominated John Kerry and closed its own candidacy for the election of the office in June 2013, which is why his mandate was limited from the outset to a few months and he on 16 July 2013, the swearing-in of his chosen successor Ed Markey resigned from his post.
