The Mobile River is a river in the south of the U.S. state of Alabama. It is formed by the confluence of the Tombigbee River to the Alabama River, after 72 km it empties into Mobile Bay on the Gulf of Mexico. Its catchment area covers an area of ​​approximately 115,000 square kilometers and extends to parts of the adjacent states of Mississippi, Georgia and Tennessee.

It is the fourth largest primary catchment area, which lies entirely within the United States. Historically, the river was the main access route to Alabama. Since construction of the Tennessee - Tombigbee Waterway, it forms an alternative route to the Ohio River.

Run

Tombigbee River and Alabama River flows 80 km along north-northeast of Mobile and thus form the Mobile River. The river pursued in a tortuous course to the south. About ten kilometers in part below the confluence, the river, the main arm extends to the west, Tensaw River forms a bayou of the Mobile River and flows from three to eight kilometers to the east to the south.

River crossings

Between the union of the Tombigbee and Alabama River and the mouth of the river of five roads is crossed, two tunnels and three bridges. For several years, a new building in the course of Interstate 10 is discussed. The Alabama Department of Transportation is currently evaluating the impact that such a bridge construction and expansion of the Jubilee Parkway on the environment. The location of such a bridge is the subject of discussion.
