Mobylette

Under the name Mobylette (falsely Mobilette ) was a whole lot of mopeds produced 1949-1984 by the French bicycle manufacturer Motobécane that have a characteristic driven by belts and chains. The frame was welded together from two stamped sheet metal halves, whereby the cavity of the tank was.

Drive concept

From the left in direction of travel of the engine crankshaft, the transmission goes first through a centrifugally acting centrifugal clutch on a Mitnehmertrommel, which is connected to a pulley. From this small pulley, V-belt transmits power to a clearly readable large pulley that runs along again with a disengageable gear on the shaft of the pedals. From a chain sprocket to the sprocket of the rear wheel runs. On the right side also runs a chain from the rear sprocket of the pedals to freewheel hub of the rear wheel.

To start the engine, is the pedals. Above described drive units is responsive to the centrifugal clutch, and the engine crank shaft is set in motion. This in bad state of repair of the vehicle often strenuous activity has led to numerous changes in ownership, the now elderly mopeds.

In the event of a breakdown, the pinion can be mechanically separated from the large belt pulley and a pivot lever, it is possible, without the resistance of the centrifugal clutch to move the Mobylette on the pedals.

Mobylette models with Moby -Matic also have a torque converter that increases the drive diameter of the small pulley on an axially acting centrifugal governor and thus varies the gear ratio of the belt of 1:18,7 1:11,8 up. The force to the provision in the larger reduction ratio is based on the belt tension. This is generated by the motor is pivotably suspended on the cylinder head in the longitudinal direction and is urged by a spring towards the front.
