Model European Union
Model European Union ( MEU ) is a simulation of the European Union, for which about 180 young Europeans at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, to come together. During the event they take over for a week the roles of European parliamentarians, ministers in the Council of the European Union, journalists, lobbyists and interpreters to learn even more about the EU.
Model European Union takes place (March, April or May), usually in the spring.
About MEU
Conference
Model European Union ( MEU ) is a week-long simulation of European politics and the European legislative process. Normally, two proposals for directives and regulations are discussed, as specified by the organization team.
The participants are divided into members of the European Parliament, Minister of the Council of the European Union, translators, journalists and Lobbyinsten.
During simulation, discuss, debate and negotiate the participants these proposals, try to reach a compromise and adopt successful. They follow the same processes and procedures as the actual European parliamentarians and ministers.
Legislative proposals in 2012
The following legislative initiatives for MEU 2012:
- Proposal for a Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council of the European Union on the use of Passenger Name Index for the prevention, detection and prosecution of terrorist offenses and organized crime activities.
- Proposal for a Regulation establishing a European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders.
The proposals will be dealt with under the ordinary legislative procedure and the consultation process.
Location
MEU is held annually in the premises of the European Parliament in Strasbourg. The organizing team provides two discount hotels for participants and helpers near the Louise Weiss building, the seat of Parliament, is available.
Organisation Team
The organizing team is made up of about 70 young people together from a variety of countries. It is reconstituted annually by the respective Director General and his deputy. Among other things, for each European country known as Country Liaison Officers are selected that operate on-site public relations and fundraising.
Model European Union is a project of BETA eV ( Bringing Europeans Together Association ). The Association shall determine annually the Director-General and accompanied preparation and execution of the simulation.
BETA e.V.
Bringing Europeans Together Association eV is a European, politically independent non-profit organization which is committed to European integration and international exchange. The club was founded in August 2008 in Mainz. Besides MEU Strasbourg organized by the club MEU Mainz and support Europe simulations as Belgrade Model European Union and MEUALB in Albania.
