Mogens Lykketoft

Mogens Lykketoft ( born January 9, 1946 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish social democratic politician.

Lykketoft studied political science and worked in the Economic Council of the Trade Union Confederation LO ( Arbejderbevægelsens Erhvervsråd ). Since 1964, member of the Party 1981, he was elected to the Danish Parliament the Folketing. 20 January 1981 to 10 September 1982, he was Minister of control.

When returning the Social Democrats to power Lykketoft was on 25 January 1993 the Treasury under Poul Nyrup Rasmussen. Following the resignation of Niels Helveg Petersen on 21 December 2000, he moved to the post of foreign minister. On 27 November 2001, the government ended Nyrup Rasmussen and Lykketoft was opposition leader. With him as the top candidate, the Social Democrats lost the general election in 2005. Consequently, he handed over the party presidency on April 12, 2005, Helle Thorning- Schmidt.

Since October 4, 2011 Lykketoft is President of the Folketing.

1987 to 2004 he was married to Jytte Hilden Minister of Culture. In 2005 he married the journalist Mette Holm. Lykketoft has two grown daughters.
