Mohammad Ayub Khan

Sardar Muhammad Ayub Khan ( Pashtun محمد ايوب خان, * 1857 in Kabul, † April 7, 1914 in Lahore ) was 1880 interim Regent of Afghanistan, from 1880 to 1881 Emir of Herat and 1881 Emir of Kandahar. He was the fifth son of Amir Shir Ali and brother of the reigning from February to October 1879 Emir Muhammad Yakub Khan.

He was known by defeating a British army in the "Second Battle of Maiwand " on July 27, 1880 during the Second British -Afghan War. After his defeat in the " Battle of Kandahar " on September 1, 1880 Abdur Rahman Khan was his successor as the new Emir. Mohammed Ayub Khan went to Persia and later exiled to India, where he died in 1914. He was buried in Peshawar (now in Pakistan ), where the Afghan King Habibullah Khan, Abdur Rahman's son, a mausoleum was built for him.
