Mohammad Yunus Khalis

June Chalis ( born 1919 in Nangarhar province, Afghanistan, † 19 July 2006) was an Afghan politician, Mudschahidinführer and founder of the Islamic party Hezb -e Eslami ( Caliph ).

Caliph came from the border region with Pakistan and belonged to Khugiani strain of the people of the Pashtuns. He studied Islam in the Dar ul - Ulum Deoband in Deoband. He was considered very well trained and published in the 1960s, a translation of the book " Al-' adala al - idschtima'iyya fi - l - Islam " ( Social Law in Islam ) by the Islamist Sayyid Qutb. Caliph fled after the coup of Mohammed Daoud Khan and the transformation of Afghanistan into a republic in 1973 to Pakistan. There he was a co-founder of the Islamist Hezb -e Eslami of Gulbuddin Hekmatyar. After the invasion of the Soviet Union in Afghanistan in 1978, he returned back. He founded in 1979 due to differences with Hekmatyar own Islamist party Hezb -e Eslami ( Caliph ) of the same name and joined the Mujahideen with this as a warlord. After the communist People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan lost their rule in 1992, Caliph belonged briefly in the interim government. His troops marched on 14 November 2001 in Jalalabad under peaceful departure of the Taliban one, after they had taken the city without a fight by the overflowing of the then Provincial Governor Haji Qadir in 1996. Caliph did not look to the Taliban or al -Qaida belonging, but sympathized with many of their ideas and supported them active.
