Mohammed V of Morocco

Mohammed V ( born August 10, 1909 in Fez, † February 26, 1961 in Rabat ) was Sultan from 1927 and from 1957 King of Morocco.

Mohammed V was born in 1909 in Fes. After he was his father Moulay Yusuf (1913-1927) followed on 18 November 1927 on the throne of the Alawites, he sympathized with the national movement, which called for the independence of Morocco from France. On April 11, 1947 Mohammed V. publicly supported in a speech in Tangier the demands of the nationalists, by calling for a unification of Morocco under it, without mentioning the colonial powers. After negotiations between France and Mohammed V had failed and the pressure of opposition Berber tribes under the pro-French Pasha of Marrakech, Tihami al - Glawi, was unsuccessful, Mohammed V was deposed on August 20, 1953. He spent his first exile in Corsica, then to Madagascar.
