Mohican (disambiguation)

The Mohicans (English Mohicans ) are a neologism of the author James Fenimore Cooper ( The Last of the Mohicans ). Two of his main characters, Uncas and Chingachcook, were members of this fictitious tribe. The name was created by the contraction of the names of the two tribes of New England Mohegan and Mahican.

The Indianistik uses this term today as a generic term for the two actually related to each other tribes and is also the root of the Pequot it.
