Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design

The Moholy- Nagy University of Art Craft and Design ( MOME ) (Hungarian Moholy -Nagy Művészeti Egyetem ), former Hungarian University of Art and Design, is based in Budapest, Hungary. The university is engaged in training traditional arts and crafts as well as architecture, design and visual communication. It was named after the painter, designer and photographer László Moholy -Nagy.

History

The predecessor of Moholy -Nagy Moholy- Nagy University of Arts Crafts and Design, was the Hungarian Royal National School of Arts and Crafts, founded in 1880., Like other European art schools, they developed from a craftsmanship of industrial school. Its founder and first director Gusztáv Keleti declared that the " educational support of a larger artistic wood and furniture industry" is the goal of the new institution. The spirit of the school has been significantly influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement in Britain, as well as from Hungarian folklore. In the beginning there was only one department, were taught in architectural drawing and design. Goldsmith and Xylograph classes were introduced in 1883, decorative painting and engraving in 1884. Founded in 1885, The class of decorative sculpture united sculptures and wood carvings. Creation and development of the university

The idea of ​​converting the school into a college was established in the early 1940s, but the hardships of the war years prevented this step first. After repairing the damage of the Second World War, the lessons in March 1945 was resumed and continued to prepare for the redesign of the university. In 1946, the Ministry decided to increase the rank of the university, and so the College of Arts and Crafts was founded.

1950, there were already six courses and the number of students rose to 1952 to 280 in 1954 covered parts of the College to its present site in the Zugligeti ut, but some of the workshops ( Textile and Ceramic Institute ) remained in the Kinizsi utca in the annex building of the Museum of Applied Arts. In 1955 a further reorganization took place with the completion of the course theater and stage. It bieben four courses: Interior design, decorative painting, decorative sculpture and textile design. 1959 also, the industrial design study was initiated.

With the appointment of the renowned ceramic artist Imre Schrammelmusik director, the appropriate university education was introduced at the same time, and the departments were established. Due to financial difficulties in 1997, the structure of the institution was changed again.

The university was accredited in 1998.

2002, a far-reaching plan was drawn up, which called for the removal of Tölgyfa gallery in the Henger road in the first phase, and the renovation of the main building of the University in the same year. The current president of the university is Gábor Kopek.

In March 2006, the Hungarian University of Art and Design was renamed Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design.
