Moishe Rosen

Martin " Moishe " Rosen ( born April 12, 1932 in Kansas City, Missouri, † 19 May, 2010 San Francisco) was the founder and later Managing Director of Jews for Jesus, an evangelical missionary society, which is aimed at Jews.

Life and work

Moishe Rosen was born as Martin Meyer Rosen in Kansas City. Beginning of the 1970s, he changed his first name to Moishe. His parents Ben Rose and Rose Baker were European Orthodox Jewish immigrants. Rose grew up in Denver. He attended Colorado College, where he met his future wife Ceil Starr, who was also a Jew. Rosen had initially a negative attitude to religion.

On August 18, 1950 Starr and Rose were married in an Orthodox synagogue. Shortly after their marriage, Starr began to be interested in Christianity and converted to Christianity in 1953. In the same year also converted to Christianity roses. He gave his position as a seller and moved to New York with his wife. He attended the " Northeastern Bible College " in New Jersey and joined the " American Board of Missions to the Jews" on today "Chosen People Ministries ", an organization which has the mission to the Jews to the destination. After graduating from college in 1957 he was ordained as pastor of a conservative Baptist church. In the same year he went to attend to various Judeo- Christian groups to Los Angeles. In 1967, he returned as manager of the " American Board of Mission to the Jews " to New York, moved in 1970 to San Francisco, where he began to work as a missionary among hippies. In 1973, he left " American Board of Mission to the Jews " and founded the Mission Jews for Jesus. In 1983 he was one of the founding members of " Lausanne Consultation on Jewish Evangelism ".

In 1986 he received an honorary doctorate of the " Western Conservative Baptist Seminary " in Portland. In 1996 he joined, 64 years old, as managing director of Jews for Jesus will return, but remained until his death from a total of fifteen board members. 1997 appointed him the " Conservative Baptist Association " to the " Hero of the Faith" (Heroes of the Faith ).

Rosen has written numerous articles and books and a large number of pamphlets, which he described as " broadsides ". He was a member of First Baptist Church and later the Dolores Park Church in San Francisco, a church of the Evangelical Covenant Church is a member.

After specifying a colleague roses throughout his life has some Jewish customs preserved as the Seder on Passover, fasted on Yom Kippur and trusted wedding couples under a chuppah, the Jewish wedding canopy.

Rose died on May 19, 2010 in San Francisco with 78 years of prostate cancer.
