Moléson

The Moléson [ mɔlezɔ ] is a mountain peak in the southern part of the canton of Fribourg in western Switzerland, directly on the northwestern edge of the Alps, 8 km south-southwest of Bulle. It forms the northernmost point of a nearly directed from south to north mountain range of the Fribourg Pre-Alps, which starts at the Col de Jaman and the Saanen valley separates the east to the west from the valley of the Veveyse. Name the mountain around the year 1000 is first mentioned already as Moleisum. Later, the names Moleisun ( 1228 ), Moleyson ( 1237 ) and Moleson ( 1238 ) published.

The Moléson reaches a height of 2,002 m above sea level. M., and together with south-west to Teysachaux ( 1,909 m above sea level. M. ) a distinctive mountain range, the steeply especially towards the north and east with rock walls. He is the headwaters of the streams Trême, L' Albeuve and Marive, all flow to the Sarine. In front of the Moléson east are the peaks of La Vudalla ( 1,670 m above sea level. M. ), Vanil Blanc ( 1'573 m above sea level. M. ) and Entre Deux Dents ( 1'619 m above sea level. M. ).

Geologically, the Moléson to Préalpes romandes, the Abscherungsdecken from Mesozoic and Tertiary sediments. He is a so-called Synklinalberg, that is the remnant of a former dump wrinkles präalpinen the ceiling, which was eroded on all sides. The mountain consists mainly of Malmkalk. The timberline is located at Moléson at around 1,600 m, then there are mountain pastures.

The well-known scenic mountain is now accessible by a cable car. From the holiday village Moléson village at its foot Northeast first performs a funicular railway to the height of Plan-Francey ( 1'517 m above sea level. M. ) and then a cable car to continue to the summit. From Plan-Francey also a fee and strongly ferruginous ferrata leads up through the north-west wall of the north summit. The nearby mountain peak La Vudalla was also formerly accessed by a cable car. This is, however, aborted since 2001. The Moléson Massif is a popular hiking and skiing. In the summit restaurant there is an observatory with four telescopes for amateur astronomers.
