Molina de Aragón

Molina de Aragón is a Spanish municipality in the province of Guadalajara Autonomous Omen Castilla- La Mancha. It is located about 140 kilometers east of the provincial capital of Guadalajara in the comarca Señorío de Molina- Alto Tajo on the marshy banks of the small river Gallo ( Gallo Rio ) and in the Sierra de Molina, ie at the foothills of the highlands of Cuenca ( Serranía de Cuenca ) or the Sierra de Albarracin. On 1 January 2013 Molina de Aragón had 3514 inhabitants.

History

The well- established already by the ancient Celtiberian place and in the 12th century the Moors castle were taken off a long time between Castile and Aragon disputed before they finally fell to Castile in the 14th century. Historically noteworthy addition to the 1931 national monument castle remains of the Roman bridge ( Puente Viejo), the Romanesque churches of Santa María del Conde, San Gil and San Felipe y Santo Tomás, the Romanesque monastery of Saint Clare of Assisi ( Convento de Santa Clara), the monastery of St. Francis ( Convento de San Francisco), some palaces and villas as well as the Jewish quarter ( Jewish quarter ).

Molina de Aragón is still a trade and service center today. At the Rio Gallo there is aragonite deposits. With the measured in December 1963 record high of -28 ° C Molina de Aragón is regarded as the coldest place in Spain.
