Monadnock Railroad

The Monadnock Railroad is a former railroad in Massachusetts and New Hampshire ( United States). It existed as an independent company from 1848 to 1892.

History

The Company was incorporated on 13 December 1848 but initially did not begin with the construction of a route. 1868, the establishment of the Company was renewed and a 24 -kilometer standard gauge railway line from Winchendon (Massachusetts ) to Peterborough (New Hampshire) planned. Until 1871, the route went into operation.

The in Winchendon then in a southerly direction Boston, Barre and Gardner Railroad leased the little train from October 1, 1874 for 99 years. However, in January 1880 the lease was transferred to the also leading by Winchendon Cheshire Railroad. After the Fitchburg Railroad in 1890 had already bought the Cheshire Railroad and took over the contract with the Monadnock Railroad, it acquired the car at September 28, 1892 final. From 1900 the railway was under control of the Boston and Maine Railroad, which they closed down in the 1970s and 1980s sections.
