Moncenisio, Piedmont

Mont Cenis ( Piedmontese Monsnis, Franco-Provençal Moueini ) is a municipality of the Italian Province of Turin (TO ), Region Piedmont. It is equipped with 34 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) the smallest municipality in Piedmont and one of the smallest of all Italy.

Mont Cenis is a member of the mountain municipality Alta Valle di Susa. The neighboring municipalities are Lanslebourg -Mont- Cenis (France), Novalesa and Venaus.

Geography

The village lies at an altitude of 1460 m slm, only a few hundred meters south of the border with France at the old pass road to the Col du Mont Cenis pass of the same name.

History

The community was originally called Ferrera. In connection with the expansion of storage facilities at Mont- Cenis Lake during the 1960s the name was changed to Mont Cenis.
