Mondialogo

Mondialogo is an initiative of Daimler AG and UNESCO to promote intercultural dialogue and exchange.

The global initiative is based on three pillars: the Mondialogo School Contest, a Mondialogo Engineering Award and the Mondialogo Internet Portal as dialogue and communication platform.

The initiative

Mondialogo was launched as an initiative of Daimler AG and UNESCO launched in October 2003. The aim of the global initiative is to bring together young people from different cultural backgrounds, to foster mutual understanding and long-term enthusiasm for intercultural exchange. Mondialogo directed the world, primarily to pupils, students and teachers. Ambassadors of the initiative are the writer Henning Mankell and Paulo Coelho.

Mondialogo School Contest

The Mondialogo School Contest is the world's biggest international competition for students between 14 and 18 years. Allen declared for participation in school teams will be assigned a them hitherto unknown partner team from another region of the world. Both teams come into contact, meet and jointly develop a project that immigration should be the focus in the issues of peace, fair play, the prevention of discrimination, a sustainable future, identity, respect for cultural diversity or emigration /. The 25 best project proposals will be selected at the end of a 6-month teamwork phase of an international jury and honored at a multi-day symposium. Here students and teachers from all over the world have the opportunity to meet personally.

Two Mondialogo School Contest have already taken place: At the first competition 2003/2004 25,000 students from 126 countries took part. The award ceremony took place in Barcelona in 2004. On the second competition more than 35,000 students were (organized in 2600 teams) from 138 countries participated. The symposium was held in 2006 in Rome. The third round of the Mondialogo School Contest is complete. The award ceremony will be held a symposium in September 2008 in Beijing in the frame.

Mondialogo Engineering Award

The Mondialogo Engineering Award calls Engineering students from developed and developing countries to draw up proposals for the realization of the Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations in international project teams - proposals which will improve the quality of life in developing countries. In his first two laps led over 3,600 young engineers from 113 countries in the Mondialogo Engineering Award involved, organized in 1500 the project team. At the end of a 6-month project collaboration, team elaborated project proposals range that will be judged by an international jury of experts. The 30 best projects are subsequently awarded as part of a multi-day symposium. Recently found symposia held in Berlin and Mumbai. Is endowed with a total of € 300,000, the award prize money that is provided for the implementation of the projects.

Mondialogo Internet Portal

In five languages ​​, the site offers a global online community of over 30,000 members from 174 countries diverse dialogue, interaction and networking functions. The participating teams of the Mondialogo School Contest and Mondialogo Engineering Award can work out with the help of virtual offices, their joint projects.
