Mons Maenalus

The mountain Maenalus (Latin Mons Maenalus ) is a constellation of the northern sky, which was introduced by the astronomer Johannes Hevelius. It is described in the star atlas by Johann Elert Bode Uranographia and other modern atlases, but not one of the 88 of the International Astronomical Union ( IAU) recognized constellations.

The mountain Maenalus is a small group of stars between the official constellations Virgo and Bootes and represents the base of the Bear Keeper boat dar. It is named after a mountain in the central Peloponnese.

Mythologically the name goes back to possibly a brother of the nymph Kallisto, whose son was Arkas of Bootes.

Main star is the star 31 Bootis, which has a brightness of 4.86 mag.
