Montalto di Castro

Montalto di Castro is a comune in the Province of Viterbo in the Italian region Latium, located about 8764 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). It is located 105 km northwest of Rome.

Geography

Montalto di Castro extends in the Maremma Laziale far from the Tyrrhenian Sea along the Via Aurelia. The municipality consists of Pescia Romano, Mont Alto Scalo, as well as the seaside resorts Montalto Marina and Marina di Pescia Romano. In the municipality are also the excavations of the ancient city of Vulci.

Salvatore Carai ( The Olive ) was elected Mayor for the second time in May 2007. His center-left alliance also with 11 of 16 seats, the majority in the City Council.

At Montalto di Castro nuclear power plant was built, which was nearing completion in 1989. After it had been decided by a popular vote of the phase-out of nuclear power, they built it to a conventional power plant.
