Montane shrew

The Dark Rotzahnspitzmaus ( Sorex monticolus ) is a species of the genus Rotzahnspitzmäuse. It belongs to the Nearctic species of this genus. Because of its northern distribution area it is one of the few insectivores of Arctic fauna.

In appearance it resembles the American mask Rotspitzmaus. However, it is slightly larger and their fur is brownish than these related Art Its distribution area is the southwestern Alaska and central Alaska and the region of the Yukon. It can be found in the regions of the tundra that are slightly moist. My preferred place habitats are river valleys that are covered with low willows and birches.

The Dark Rotzahnspitzmaus including tail has a body length between 95 and 140 millimeters. It weighs between five and ten grams, making it one of the heaviest and largest of the Nordic types of Rotzahnspitzmäuse.
