Montclair is a township in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. In the 2000 census, a total population of 38 977 has been registered. In the city the Montclair State University.
Geography
Montclair is located on the first ridge of the Watchung Mountains. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 16.3 km ², and no water surfaces are miteinberechnet.

According to the census of 2000, there are 38,977 people, 15,020 households, and 9,687 families residing in the city. The population density is 2388.7 persons per km ². 59.77 % of the population are White, 32.06 % African American, 0.19 % Native American, 3.15 % Asian, 0.04 % Pacific Islander, 1.77 % from other races, and 3.03% mixed race. 5.12% are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
