The Montreal Arena, also known as Westmount Arena, was designed for hockey hall in Canadian Westmount in the agglomeration of Montreal. It was located at the corner of St. Catherine Street and Wood Avenue. It was opened on 31 December 1898 and provided space for 10,000 spectators, including 4,300 seats. After the 1896 Dey 's Arena opened in Ottawa was only the second, designed specifically for ice hockey events hall.

First they offered the Amateur Hockey Association of Canada teams Montreal Hockey Club, Montreal Shamrocks and Montreal Victorias a home ground. Between 1909 and 1918, the Montreal Wanderers and Montreal Canadiens played in the hall.

1915 artificial ice equipment has been added. On January 2, 1918, the hall burned down completely. While the Canadiens on the Jubilee Arena found a new venue, the Wanderers were dissolved, there stood no alternative hall available for them.

The owners of the Montreal Arena, the Arena Company, also built the Arena Gardens in Toronto, where she the National Hockey League franchise opened in 1917.
