Montréal-Nord

Montréal-Nord is one of 19 arrondissements of the city of Montreal in the Canadian province of Québec. Before 2002 it was a separate municipality. In 2011, the 11.1 km ² large city district counted 83 868 inhabitants.

Geography

Montréal- Nord is located in the north of Île de Montréal, on the eastern shore of the Rivière des Prairies. Adjacent arrondissements the city of Montreal are Rivière -des- Prairies - Pointe- aux- Trembles in the north, Anjou in the Northeast, Saint- Léonard in the east, Villeray -Saint -Michel- Parc- Extension in the southeast and Ahuntsic - Cartierville to the south.

History

The district goes back to the founded in 1845 Sprengel Sault -au- Recollet. From this in 1896 and 1897 two congregations split off. The residual area separated in 1910 in a village community ( municipalité de village ) and Sprengel ( municipalité de paroisse ), both of which still bore the name of Sault -au- Recollet. The northerly parish in 1915 received the status of a city and renamed itself in Montréal-Nord, south to the village community was incorporated in 1916 to Montreal. 1967 there was an attempt to change the felt to be unoriginal names of municipalities, but ultimately, everything remained the same. On 1 January 2002 merged with Montréal-Nord Montreal and has since formed a district.
