Montserrado County

Montserrado County is an administrative region ( County) in Liberia, it has a size of 1909 km ², and had at the last census (2008) 1118241 inhabitants.

The administrative region is divided into five districts. The Liberian capital Monrovia is the largest city of the county and has a special status. Bensonville is the capital of the County and is in the same District.

Among the notable places include: Arthington, Brewerville, Careysburg, Clay - Ashland, Crozerville, Dixville, Castle Mills and Virginia.

Montserrado is located on the Atlantic coast. On the flag of Montserrado an island is depicted with two trees and a house in the middle between dark blue and red background. This indicates that clashed on Providence Iceland in Montserrado old and new cultures ( indigenous ethnic groups and -down from North America former slaves, see also ethnic groups in Liberia).

Policy

The carried out in 2005 first democratic elections after the Civil War Senate Joyce Musu Freeman was elected by the CDC. Mrs. Geraldine Doe - Sheriff, also of the CDC, received her Senate seat in 2009 as part of a by-election.
