Montsevelier

Montsevelier was a municipality in the district Delémont the canton of Jura in Switzerland. The former German name Mutzwiler is no longer used today. On 1 January 2013, it merged with the municipalities of Vermes and Vicques the new municipality of Val Terbi.

Geography

Montsevelier is located on 565 m above sea level. M., 13 km east from the cantonal capital Delémont ( straight line ). The farming village extends along the stream Ruisseau de Montsevelier in Val Terbi, the easternmost section of the Basin Dels Berger, a broad valley in the Jura folds.

The area of ​​7.8 km ² large municipality area includes a small section of the intensively farmed valley of Dels Berger basin. The municipal area is drained by the Montsevelier -Bach, a right side of the creek scolding Bach (French Schelten ), west to the Birs. In the north and east Montsevelier is framed by the High Jura ridges. The northern municipal boundary runs along the crest of the Fringelikette (L' Aibaiteuse, 921 m above sea level. M. ). To the northeast is about Welschgätterli (810 m above sea level. M. ) a trail linkage with the Lüsseltal. The highest point in the municipality is achieved in the southeast on the 1073 m high Grandmont. From the municipality surface 1997 4 % came from settlements, 45 % of forest and woody plants and 51% to agriculture.

To Montsevelier include several individual farms. Neighboring communities of Montsevelier are Mervelier and Corban in the Canton of Jura and Bärschwil, Grindelwald, Erschwil and Beinwil in the canton of Solothurn.

Population

With 509 inhabitants ( as at 31 December 2012) is one Montsevelier to the smaller municipalities of the canton of Jura. Of the 96.2 % inhabitants are French-speaking and German-speaking 3.2 % (as of 2000). The population of Montsevelier amounted in 1850 to 414 residents in 1900 to 384 inhabitants. During the 20th century a continuous population growth was recorded. Since 1980 (556 inhabitants), there were only slight variations.

Economy

The community is still dominated by agriculture. In the village there are also jobs in the secondary sector, namely in the fields of machine tools, watchmaking and precision engineering. Nevertheless, many employed workers (over 50%) of commuters and work mainly in the region Delémont.

Traffic

Montsevelier located away from thoroughfares. By bus, which runs from Delémont via Mervelier after Montsevelier, the community is connected to the public transport.

History

Finds traces of a vibrant ceramic workshop can be a settlement of the municipal area around the 7th century suspect. First mention is the place in 1136 as Muzivilir. Appear little later the name Munhewilare ( 1139 ), Muzwillare ( 1140 ), Motzwilre ( 1242 ), Muzwilr ( 1291 ), Mussevelier ( 1317 ) and finally Moncevelier ( 1462 ). The place name probably goes back to the homestead of a Musso or Muzzo the Carolingian period.

Montsevelier formed an exclave of the reign of Dels mountain and was surrounded to the west and south by the territory of the Provost Moutier- Grandval. This was neutral as Helvetian territory and in 1792, when the French dominion of Delsberg occupied, for the time being not touched. Montsevelier therefore could not be taken. As a result, the church declared the independent République de Montsevelier, which until 1798 had stock. This year Montsevelier France was annexed. Initially, it was part of the Département du Mont- Terrible, 1800, was connected with the Department of Haut -Rhin. By the decision of the Congress of Vienna, the place came in 1815 to the canton of Bern and remained an exclave of the district Delémont. Only with the passage of the neighboring communities Mervelier and Corban 1976 Delémont district in the Canton Jura was ended this special administration. January 1, 1979 Montsevelier came along with the other communities in the newly founded Canton Jura.

Currently planning the municipalities of Val Terbi (that is Corban, Courchapoix, Courroux, Mervelier, Montsevelier, Vermes and Vicques ) a merger, which is scheduled for the end of 2012 about.

Attractions

The present village church in the style of eclecticism was built from 1900 to 1901. It stands on the site of an earlier temple dating from the 17th century. For parish Montsevelier belonged until 1771 also Mervelier and rebuke. Outside the village on the municipal boundary to Mervelier is a scenic location, the Chapel Saint-Grat.
