Monument Avenue

The Monument Avenue, and Monument Avenue Historic District, is an Avenue in Richmond, Virginia, in the United States.

National Memorial

Along the boulevard there are numerous monuments and memorials as well as consuming mansions from the late 19th century. The Monument Avenue is the annual venue of various commemorations and events, as gathered in May 1890, 100,000 people for the unveiling of a monument in honor of Robert Edward Lee.

The Monument Avenue Historic District was accepted as a National Historic Landmark on the National Register of Historic Places in December 1997 and has since been one of the 119 historic sites in Virginia. On the Avenue are, inter alia, to Statues and monuments to Robert Edward Lee, James Ewell Brown Stuart, Jefferson Davis, Thomas Jonathan Jackson, Matthew Fontaine Maury and the tennis legend Arthur Ashe. The end is busy with City Planning American Planning Association is one of the Monument Avenue in Richmond amongst the most beautiful and most important roads in the United States.
