Mor Karbasi

Mor Karbasi ( born April 23, 1986 in Jerusalem) is an Israeli singer and songwriter.

Life

Her mother is from Nazareth and is of Moroccan descent, while her father is from Jerusalem and Persian or Iranian ancestors. This dazzling, Jewish lines can be found in her music again. She now lives with her partner, guitarist Joe Taylor, in London.

One of their main projects is Sephardic music, which will be carried forward in Ladino. Ladino is the language of from 1492 - as part of the Reconquista - Jews who had emigrated from Spain. Mor Karbasi composed songs himself and interprets traditional songs. Their music can be compared with that of Mariza and Yasmin Levy. However, it has a strong individual sound.

In Mor Karbasis music you can hear the unmistakable influences of both flamenco and fado. Their musical influences are talents such as Umm Kulthum, Amalia Rodrigues, Madredeus and Mercedes Sosa.
