Moravské zemské muzeum

The Moravian Museum ( Muzeum tschech. Moravské zemské, MZM) in Brno is one of the most important museums in the Czech Republic.

History

Today's second-largest and second oldest museum institution at the same time the Czech Republic was founded on July 29, 1817 due to the imperial decree of Emperor Francis I as Kaiser-Franz- Museum ( Muzeum Františkovo ).

Importance

In museum's collections include over 6 million valuable exhibits from the fields of anthropology, archeology, prehistory and early history and the Middle Ages, Botany, theater science, entomology, ethnography, geology, genetics, history, mineralogy, music, science, paleontology and zoology; with respect to the history of the country part of Moravia.

As the most important exhibit is considered the Venus of Dolni Věstonie.

In addition to the inventory education and scientific research, the Museum organizes exhibitions, lectures and excursions and is dedicated to the production of publications and working with children and young people.

The Moravian Museum is under the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and is a member of the Association of Museums and Galleries of the Czech Republic.
