Mordechai Bentov

Mordechai Bentov ( מרדכי בנטוב, maiden name Mordechai Gutgeld; born March 28, 1900 in Warszawa, † 18 January 1985 in Mishmar haEmek ) was an Israeli journalist and politician, who signed the Declaration of Independence of the State of Israel. Bentov held in several cabinets high government posts.

Life

Bentov was born in Warszawa, then part of Russia and is now in Poland. He studied law for two years at the University of Warsaw. During this time he was co-founder and head of the Zionist Hashomer Hatzair youth organization. 1920 emigrated to the League of Nations Mandate for Palestine and continued his law studies in Jerusalem at the British law school, which was operated by the British Mandate government, continued.

In Palestine, he joined the kibbutz movement, Hashomer Hatzair in the rose in a leadership position in, was an official of the Histadrut and the World Zionist Organization. Bentow 1947 was member of the delegation of the Jewish Agency at the United Nations. In 1943 he founded the newspaper Al Hamishmar, which appeared until 1995.
