Morris Michael Edelstein

Morris Michael Edelstein ( born February 5, 1888 in Międzyrzec Podlaski, Poland; † 4 June 1941 in Washington DC) was an American lawyer and politician. He represented in the years 1940 and 1941 the New York State in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

The gemstone family emigrated in 1891 to the United States and settled in New York City. Morris Michael Edelstein attended public schools and the Cooper Union College. In 1909 he graduated from the Brooklyn Law School of St. Lawrence University in New York City. His admission to the bar he received in 1910 and then began to practice in New York City. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. He was in a by-election on February 6, 1940 in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, there to fill the vacancy that was created by the death of William I. Sirovich. On June 4, 1941, he died in the wardrobe of the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC, after which he gave a speech in the U.S. House of Representatives. His body was then buried in the Mount Zion Cemetery in Maspeth.

During the Second World War, the liner SS M. Michael Edelstein was named after him in honor.
