Morter
Morter is a fraction of the market town Laces Venosta at the mouth of the Martell in South Tyrol (Italy).
The settlement was already in the 9th century as a villa Mortario ( "Village of mortar -maker ", ie Kalkbrenner) mentioned.
The small village among the impressive ruins of the castles upper and Untermontani (now ruins ) and the chapel of St. Stefan offers a confined space a wealth of Romanesque and Gothic art. From the library of Obermontani comes one of the oldest copies of the Nibelungenlied ( 1323), which is now in the State Archives in Berlin - Dahlem.
Chapel of St. Stephen
The above mentioned chapel of St. Stefan is one of the most remarkable churches of South Tyrol. His frescoes from the 15th century, the Lombard, Dutch and Bavarian schools. Among other things, on the north wall of the cycle in 12 frames of the legend of St. Stephen, the east wall shows the legend of St. Ursula. There are hunting scenes of St. Hubertus and impressive on the west side of fine art paintings of the Last Judgment on the south wall.
Chapel of the Holy Vigilius in Anger
The Chapel of the Holy Vigilius in Anger, also known as St. Blaise Vigiliuskirchlein or church is a Romanesque chapel.
The small chapel is a Romanesque Dreikonchenbau, this design is unique in Val Venosta. Once you believed for a long time that they had the Holy Cross Chapel Müstair, Grisons model, one assumes today that it was first built. In the church there is a header row in the nave, which tells of the consecration on September 29, 1080 by Bishop Henry I of Trent.
The non- conventional Venosta Church Holy Vigilius and Blaise have, as the consecration by the Bishop of Trent, pointed out that it is here to Trent possession in the Diocese of Chur.
On the facade was a founder couple around 1400 a crucifixion group with church patron install.
In the chapel a few frescoes have been preserved, in part they have both been extensively restored by the curator C. Atz.
