Moses McClean

Moses McClean ( born June 17, 1804 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, † September 30, 1870 ) was an American politician. From 1845 to 1847 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Moses McClean received an academic education. After a subsequent law degree in 1825 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he started working at Gettysburg in this profession. In the 1840s, he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career.

In the congressional elections of 1844 McClean in the 15th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Henry Nes on March 4, 1845. Until March 3, 1847, he was able to complete a term in Congress. This was marked by the events of the Mexican-American War.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives McClean again practiced as a lawyer in Gettysburg. In the 1850s he became a member of the nativist Know-Nothing Party, which was also known as the American Party. In 1855 he sat for his new party in the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. He then continued his legal practice. He died on September 30, 1870 in his home town of Gettysburg.
