MoShang

MoShang is the stage name of Jean Marais, a South African downbeat Chillout producer and musician, who now lives in Taiwan.

Life

Jean Marais began his musical involvement in the early 1980s, first as a chorister in Cape Town, South Africa. The first successes had Marais as a singer and frontman of the South African art - rock band Duusman ( Afrikaans, Dutch German ) and as a saxophonist for the group tsunami. Later, he produced three award-winning albums in honor of the poet Breyten Breytenbach. Together with Riku Lätti founded Marais Afrikaans pop duo 12 Hz 2003, she brought the album Nou ( Afrikaans, German Now) out at Rhythm Records / Bowline. He was awarded South Africa's prestigious Avanti Craft Award for his role on the short film Angels in a Cage.

2003 moved Marais in the Taiwanese city of Taichung. There he released his first album Made in Taiwan under the Chinese stage name MoShang. His second album Chill Dynasty followed in 2006. His music has been selected HD production Fantastic Festivals Of The World for Discovery. In 2009 he was the winner in the audio category of the Ubuntu 9.04 Free Culture Showcase. In 2009 he founded as Jean Marais, together with Andre van Rensburg and Louis Minnaar, the project Eentonig ( Afrikaans, German monotone ) and released a self-titled album and a book of the same name.

His fourth album Further East MoShang published in 2010 on the German label Lemongrassmusic. He has published more than 100 episodes of his live online podcasts. Each episode is one hour and includes the live performance of his original music. MoShang composed during this period, the original score for the documentary Koxinga: A Hero's Legacy of the National Geographic Channel Asia. In 2012 he released his sixth album What Comes Around at Stone Bell Music.
