Motion perception#The aperture problem

As aperture problem sometimes the problem is identified in the image processing, estimating of the movements of the eye image taken by the 2-D direction of movement of objects in parallel to the image plane.

The optical flow in an image can be estimated if there are sufficient brightness pattern in the image and can be interpreted. Precisely, this can only be done if the movement is parallel to the brightness gradient.
