Motorways of Pakistan

The highways of Pakistan are maintained and operated by the National Highway Authority.

Characteristics of highways

Pakistan's motorways are equipped with either six- lanes or four lanes. They are fenced on the outside for safety and prevention of unauthorized access by pedestrians, animals and slow-moving vehicles and at least partial toll road.

The lowest speed is 80 km / h and the top speed 100 km / h for heavy vehicles and 120 km / h for light transport vehicles. The use of the highways is restricted to fast-moving vehicles, including heavy motorcycles. Pedestrians, bicycles, motorcycles, low power, animal driven carts and other slow-moving vehicles are not allowed on the motorways.

Until March 2011, highways were completed with a total length of 632 miles and planned about 233 km under construction and more. Pakistan's motorways are part of Pakistan's National Trade Corridor Project, which connects the three Pakistani ports on the Arabian Sea with the rest of the country and further north with Afghanistan, Central Asia and China is to be performed.
