Motukawao Islands

The Motukawao Islands are an archipelago in the northeast of the North Island of New Zealand. They are the northernmost of a series of islands in the Hauraki Gulf off the west coast of the Coromandel Peninsula. They are located about 5 km southwest of Colville and extend over a length of 7.6 km from the tiny Motupotaka Rock ( Black Rocks ) in the north- west to the three little Ngamotukaraka Islands (Three Kings Islands ) and Moturua (Rabbit Iceland ) in the southeast.

The largest islands in the group of uninhabited islands are Moturua (Rabbit Iceland, 24 ha), Motuwi ( Double Iceland, 22 ha), Motukahaua ( Happy Jack Iceland, 22 ha) and Motukaramarama ( Motumarama, Bush Iceland, 18 ha). Smaller islands are Motumakareta, Motuwhakakewa, Motuwinukenuke ( Iceland Square ), Motutakupu ( Gannet Iceland ) and Frenchmans Cap.
