Mount Catherine

The Jabal Katrina ( German and Mount St. Catherine, Arabic جبل كاترينا Jabal Katrina or جبل القديسة كاترينا Jabal al - Qiddīsa Katrina ) lies on the Sinai Peninsula and is with 2637m the highest peak in Egypt. A few kilometers north-east are the Greek Orthodox St. Catherine's Monastery and Moses Mountain.

The mountain is named after Saint Catherine of Alexandria.

He is five hours away from St. Catherine's Monastery. Thanks a footpath, which a monk of the monastery named Moses built into the mountain, it is comfortable to climb on foot. Officially, the mountain can be climbed with a guide.

On the summit of Jabal Katrina is a chapel, dedicated to St. Catherine, whose sacred remains were found, according to the tradition here and brought down to the monastery. In addition, two rooms are for pilgrims who want to spend the night there. There is also a meteorological station at the summit, which was built in 1932 by Smith Meteorological Institute of California.

The mountain offers a wonderful view to the south of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Eilat, with its islands.
