Mount Dainichi

The Dainichigatake (Japanese大日ヶ岳) is a 1708.9 -meter-high mountain of Ryōhaku Mountains on the main Japanese island of Honshu.

Survey

Location

Originally Dainichigatake marked the border between the provinces of Mino, Hida and Echizen. With the introduction of prefectures in 1871, the mountain was in parts of the prefectures of Fukui and Gifu.

Owned by the Fukui Prefecture village Itoshiro (石 彻 白 村, -mura ) was established in 1958 on the occasion of the prefecture -wide " Great community merging the Shōwa period " (昭和 の 大 合併, Shōwa no dai - gappei ) in the urban community Shiratori (白鸟 町, -chō ) (now part of the city Gujō ) of the district Gujō (郡 上郡, -gun ) incorporated. This was then extended to the entire area occupied by the mountain to the prefecture of Gifu.

Outflow

The rain water flows through the rivers of Dainichigatake Nagara, Shō and Kuzuryu in three different directions.

First ascent

For the first time to have been climbed in the year 717 by the Buddhist monk Taicho of the mountain, on the summit of the Buddha Mahavairocana (大 日 如 来, Dainichi nyorai ) is said to have worshiped.

Use

There are three mountain trails to the summit, from which the 2702 m high volcano Haku -san can be seen.

The slopes of the mountain are used for winter sports.
