Mount Darwin (Tasmania)

Mount Darwin is a mountain in the west of the Australian state of Tasmania. It lies at the southern end of the West Coast Range and is named after Charles Darwin.

Location

On the eastern flank of the mountain lies the ghost town of Darwin. On its northern slopes of the Andrew River rises north of Mount Darwin is the Mount Jukes, while the Mount Sorell followed in the West.

Mining

At Mount Darwin to find long since abandoned short adits and shallow valleys, where was formerly mined for gold. They belong to the Jukes -Darwin Field.

Access

The mountain has a plateau and old mining roads that lead to some of the older mining sites.

In the 1970s you could drive with all-wheel drive vehicles to the summit of Mount Darwin. The paths lead across the valley of the Clark River, which lies between Mount Darwin and Mount Sorell. And some paths have been created on the hills to the south flank of Mount Jukes.
