Mount Hutt

Mount Hutt is a 2086 m high mountain west of the Canterbury Plains on New Zealand's South Island. It towers above the headwaters of the Rakaia River, and is about 80 km from the largest city in the South Island, Christchurch, away.

Ski resort

On the mountain is a ski resort with an area of 3.65 km ² ( of which 42 hectares with the possibility of producing artificial snow ) and a height difference of 683 m. In the complex there are 4 ski lifts are operated.

The snow season lasts from May to October. Mount Hutt prides itself on the first ski resort in the southern hemisphere open the season, and to have the longest season, however, is often closed due to bad weather conditions.

12 August 2010 resulted in winds of up to 200 km / h closure of the area and the access road so that 1200 people had to be housed until the next day in the buildings of the ski area.
