Mount Mutis

The Mutis ( Gunung Mutis Mutis Nuaf, Nuaf Nefomasi ) is the highest mountain in West Timor and the province of East Nusa Tenggara. It is 2417 m high. It is located in the district of North Central Timor ( Timor Tengah Utara ), south of the East Timorese enclave of Oecusse.

The peak can be seen in two and a half to four hours from the artificial lake near the village Fatumasi ( Fatumenasi ) reach (1600 m). The eight-kilometer route is not marked, so you need to climb a leader.

The area is wooded and crossed by several small rivers. The 10,000 -acre area is a wildlife sanctuary, home to numerous bird species. Within the protected area are the villages Nuapin and Nena, a dozen other villages are beyond the protection zone. Nine of the villages are already in the district Südzentraltimor. The total population in the 14 villages around 25,000 people. They speak Mollo - miomafo, a dialect of Uab Meto, which is spoken in most of West Timor. The residents shall be the Mutis as their sacred origin.
