Mount Victoria (Wellington)

Mount Victoria, in the parlance of the Wellington Mt Vic, is both a prominent hill to the east of the center of Wellington in New Zealand, as well as a location in its vicinity suburb.

The hill is 196 m high. South of it is connected to the main mountain connected by a ridge Mount Alfred.

The suburb is located on the western edge of this ridge above the south end of the central business district of Wellington. It is a mixed area of residential and commercial buildings. The surrounding suburbs are almost entirely residential. These are in the north, the east Roseneath, Hataitai to the south and west Te Aro.

Government House, one of the residences of the Governor General of New Zealand, located on the slope of the mountain south of the famous cricket stadium " Basin Reserve " towards Newtown. Behind it is the hospital of Wellington.

On the west flank of the hill is a Greek Orthodox Church. At its foot are the Basin Reserve Cricket Stadium and the National War Memorial.

Among the schools in the area include Wellington College, Wellington East Girls' College and the Clyde Quay School.

The Hataitai bus tunnel and the Mount Victoria Tunnel of State Hichway 1 pass under the ridge and connect the city center with the Wellington, Evans Bay and Miramar Peninsula Airport.
