Movement for Democracy – The Net

La Rete ( long form: Movimento per la Democrazia - La Rete ) ( German: Movement for Democracy - The Net) was a party in Italy, founded and run by Leoluca Orlando.

La Rete was founded on 24 January 1991 as an anti- mafia movement. Its founder Leoluca Orlando at that time was mayor of Palermo and sat on this foundation of his old party, the Christian Democrats, which have been proven time and more complications with the Cosa Nostra.

The party had seats in the Italian parliament and in many local councils. At the general election in 1994, she joined the left electoral coalition National Alliance dei Progressisti led by the Democratic Party of the Sinistra. On 27 February 1999, La Rete merged with other groups to the party national leadership, the La Margherita in 2002 - rose Democrazia è Libertà.
