Movement for the Progress of Madagascar

The Mpitolona ho an'ny Fandrosoan'i Madagasikara (abbreviated MFM to German movement for the advancement of Madagascar ) is a political party in Madagascar. The party chairman has Manandafy Rakotonirina.

History

The party was on December 27, 1972 as Mpitolona ho amin'ny Fanjakana ny Madinika - founded (MFM party for ). At that time it was the left-wing opposition to the military regime that took power in the same year. The party was during the regime of Ratsiraka in the opposition and was part of the movement, which forced him to power in 1991 task. The party also support Marc Ravalomanana against Ratsiraka in the 2001 presidential elections and helped to convince him not to accept the first official results but to declare himself the winner.

The party was transformed into a progressive liberal party and changed its name. It is now an observer of the Liberal International, to which it acceded in 2006 at the Congress in Marrakech. Since the elections to the Malagasy National Assembly on 23 September 2007, this is no longer represented in parliament.
